Chiens brings together 200 drawings by Jochen Gerner designed in line with his study on birds published in 2021. From thought or observation, these drawings were structured from March 2022 to April 2023 on the fine horizontal and vertical lines, squared or millimetered, of Chinese geometry notebooks or writing notebooks from Indian provinces. The technique of felt-tip pen with pigmented Indian ink on school notebooks continues the graphic experimentation of Jochen Gerner, who explores the potential of the frame in the representation of the textures of coats. Simple, quasi-abstract flexible shapes, punctuated by two or three points (eye and nose), make up the silhouettes of dogs in the first drawings of this collection which today draws up a varied inventory of canine breeds, real, semi-real or chimerical. . The dog, a domestic mammal descended from the wolf, broken down into multiple breeds resulting from crossbreeding and evolution, has the particularity of being distinguished by dimensions, contours, textures and coats in innumerable variations: bichrome cattle dog in a moiré coat, Slovak haired pointer rough, electrostatic chow chow, bichon frize, borzoi greyhound with sinuous fleece, troubled Irish water dog, blue Picardy spaniel, Scottish terrier with coniferous thorn coat, Mikado spitz…
