HelemaalShea ® is a small-scale soap factory (soap maker) located in De Rijp, North Holland. We are a small company where natural handmade soap and hair soap (solid shampoo), shampoo bars but also zero waste skin care products are made. All products are vegan and made with natural ingredients. In addition, our products do not contain microplastics. The ingredients and the end product have only been tested on people, such as HelemaalShea employees and on men and children ;). We package all products plastic-free. What we do use, for example, are paper boxes for the soap and shampoo bars, glass for the bottles and aluminum cans for the canned shaving soap. All these materials are 100% recyclable.
We only use cardboard boxes or letterbox boxes as packaging material for orders. With each order we carefully consider the size required. This allows us to send as little air as possible. And to protect the contents we use biodegradable padding material or paper. The boxes are taped shut with paper tape. So there is no plastic involved at all!
All products are handmade, in small quantities so that you always buy a fresh product.

HelemaalShea has the necessary certificates which are mandatory according to the European Cosmetics Regulation (EC 1223/2009). All products are made under GMP and registered with the CPNP.

Our natural soaps are handmade using the cold process method. This way of making soap involves using vegetable oils (we don't use palm oil!)and mixes butters with lye. Lye is a mixture of water with NaOH (sodium hydroxide). The oils, butters and lye enter the saponification process. Nothing remains of the lye after the saponification process and the drying period of the soap (and is therefore not on the ingredients list). And the saponification process creates natural glycerin. This is naturally present in every bar of cold process soap, so we do not add it as a separate ingredient.

The soaps are cut into handy cubes after 24 hours. These cubes must then dry for 4 to 6 weeks in our wooden drying racks before we can package them. This drying time is necessary to get a nice hard soap that lasts a long time and foams well.
