Ardnamurchan Scotland

The lighthouse at Ardnamurchan is one of over 200 that are located around Scotland's wild coastline. Operated and maintained by the Northern Lighthouse Board to warn ships of dangerous waters and provide safe passage. The lighthouse stands on the most westerly point of the British mainland and plays a vital role in navigation through an area of many islands, strong tidal streams and poor weather conditions. Standing 36 metres high and 55 metres above sea level, Ardnamurchan lighthouse was designed and built by Alan Stevenson in 1849.
