The Europeans only discovered this fruit after the discovery of America and the raw foodists much later, since the leather-like skin coat could initially only be cracked by roasting. The plant is now cultivated in large areas in America, Asia and Africa, and the kernels have become a cheap alternative to nuts for many allergy sufferers. Our cashews come from Vietnam and are cracked without acid immediately after harvest, when the shell is still soft. Hints: Store in a cool, dark and dry place.
