In 1989, Riad Basmaji (RB), a doctor of applied mathematics from the historic city of ALEP, discovered the benefits of Aleppo soap by chance after suffering from a fungal infection. In 2001, he founded a company in France to distribute this soap. Concerned about quality and authenticity, he opened his own soap factory in Aleppo in 2003, but had to move it to Tunisia in 2011 due to instability in Syria.
The B’nature SARL soap factory was created in Tunis, where RB combined traditional and scientific methods to produce Aleppo soap, respecting European standards. The company also conducted comparative studies to demonstrate the benefits of their soap on the skin compared to common detergents. Faced with growing demand, the soap factory expanded in 2015, and from 2016, B’nature began to certify its products with Ecocert Green Life France. With the improvement of the situation in Syria, B’nature has returned to partial production in Aleppo in collaboration with a local soap factory.
