Founded in 1979, ARMAÏTÉ is a family business specializing in the manufacture of artisanal Basque espadrilles. Based in Idaux-Mendy near Mauléon (64), in the heart of the Basque Country, the brand perpetuates traditional know-how passed down over three generations.
Our Story
Armand and Maïté Perez launched ARMAÏTÉ in their cellar before expanding in 1989. Armand Perez (son of a sandal maker) worked all his life to promote the Basque espadrille, notably by creating the largest espadrille in the world, listed in the Guinness Book of Records. He was recognized as a master craftsman in 2000.
Since 2002, their daughter, Pascale Pereira, has run the company. She learned the trade at every stage of production, drawing on family heritage and complete mastery of the process. She was also recognized as a master craftsman.
