Otherwise, a hole will appear in the candle and it will only burn partially. Aim for the melted wax to be about 1cm deep before extinguishing the candle. We also recommend trimming the wick if it is too long, to prevent the flame from becoming too large and the candle burning unnecessarily hard. However, a wick that is too short can prevent a wide candle from melting completely to the edge. So the correct wick length is also important for a candle to burn properly. The rule of thumb is that a wider candle needs a longer wick than a narrower candle.</p>
