At the gates of Munich there is a small fine distillery in which whiskey, rum, various fruit brandies and other distillates are distilled with passion. Various unusual liqueurs are also part of the repertoire.
The name giver for the family-run company was the originally black-fired classic schnapps from the USA. At the time of Prohibition, it was forbidden to manufacture, transport or sell alcohol. The black distillers therefore set up their stills in the forest at night and preferred to burn at full moon, as this provided sufficient light. Hence the name "Moonshine". And the Schnell family still sells their moonshine in traditional jars today.
