Alkyd thermosetting resin medium The alkyd medium fluidizes the oil, gives it a uniform lacquered appearance, and increases luminosity. 
It also increases the absorption of the oil. 
Its use is recommended for the “chiaroscuro” technique. 
By playing on the modulation of light it can be associated with colors for preparatory background work called “imprimatura”.
