Leonardian bombard

The original drawing dated 1504, is found on folio 33r of the Codex Atlanticus, at the Veneranda Biblioteca Ambrosiana in Milan. The design, of rare beauty, represents the entire sequence of operation of the weapon. The large mouth and mortar shape of the BOMB is capable of firing large bullets which, exploding in the air, release a large number of smaller bombs that spread over a large area on the battlefield and, exploding again at turn into smaller shards, they are capable of knocking out large numbers of enemies. The operation resembles the current fragmentation bombs. Our model is inspired by this design.
