Quintessence, Red, 2022 AOP Luberon, Rhone Valley, France 3 barrels, our 3 best, assembled in this exceptional vintage, a blend of Grenache noir and Syrah: 838 bottles of a solar red of candied red fruits, a balanced red, with melted tannins representative of our high-altitude terroir. THE VINTAGE In 2022, the Luberon experienced a climate characterized by exceptionally high temperatures, especially in summer, with several heat waves. Rainfall was very low, accentuating a severe drought in the region. At the end of summer (August 16) part of our plots were hit by a hail storm which fortunately was followed by a mistral and hot wind which immediately dried the damaged berries. These climatic conditions led to an early wine harvest and posed serious challenges during the harvest (sorting on the plot) and in winemaking. Ultimately, our 2022 vintage is sunny, well-balanced and still with the freshness linked to altitude. TERROIR Located in the Luberon regional park, equidistant from Aix-en-Provence and Manosque, the plots benefit from an average altitude of 400 meters, which gives the wines a nice freshness thanks to the lower temperatures at night. Maturities are later than in the plains, which allows for greater finesse. The land is clay-limestone and benefits from permanent grass cover as part of the Conservation Agriculture program practiced at the Domaine, which is also certified ORGANIC. VINIFICATION Organic cultivation. Manual harvest. Total destemming, semi-carbonic maceration and indigenous fermentation. Manual harvest. Maceration and fermentation with indigenous yeasts in small 500-litre vats, with daily punching down for 3 weeks to release all the aromas.
