Duala Sea Buckthorn Gin is named after the extensive Borkum dune landscape, where the sea buckthorn berries have their home. Sea buckthorn, the lemon of the north, and a tart aroma of juniper combine with other selected botanicals to create a fruity delight. A handcrafted dry gin made from high-quality ingredients, without subsequent aromatization, but with intense fruit and a unique taste.
It all started with a small still in the garage and some experience in the production of various fruit brandies. A private gin tasting in 2018 with the family then gave the impetus to enter previously unknown territory and to create our own gin with a characteristic sea buckthorn note, which should capture the taste of the island - a crazy idea was born.
Right from the start, our claim and also our challenge was to produce a high-quality spirit that has a distinctive fruity taste, but does not require any subsequent aromatization. After a year and a half, a lot of work, learning money, lots of fun and many, many test firings later, the final Duala recipe was finally set! And it was good. So good that we didn't want to keep the result to ourselves any longer and went into large-scale production.
From the idea to the recipe development to the design and sales, everything comes from our hands - a real family business from Borkum.
With winning the silver medal at the gin competition "The Gin Masters" and a medal at the renowned "International Spirits Awards", we are also pleased about the first international recognition!
