Organic Cedar Sprockets

The Siberian cedar covers thousands of hectares of wild forests, far from any human industrial or agricultural activity. Harvested in remote areas, in grandiose landscapes, “cedar apples” considered “the gold of the Taiga” are popular in Russia for their sweet pine flavor. They take several years to mature and produce their seed, a real concentrate of taste and nutritional richness. Rich in fatty acids, proteins and essential nutrients, these pine nuts will work wonders as a snack or mixed with other dried fruits. Related to the popular pine nuts, Siberian cedar nuts have a stronger taste. A delight! Our sector Cedar apple harvesters travel on horseback to sites that are impassable to other means of transport. Their seasonal harvest is supervised by a company in charge of selection, packaging and export, which provides additional income for dozens of families, often living like trappers in difficult climatic conditions. Samia Huber, co-manager of Ecoillées, traveled to Siberia to visit the harvesting and production sites, and we can attest first-hand not only to the favorable impact of this production on the local economy, but also a spirit of solidarity that is very respectful of harvesters and all stakeholders in the sector, which meets our ethical requirements in terms of supply.
