The Factory of Fanette Mellier

Author of more than a dozen books, Fanette Mellier has explored for almost twenty years the possibilities left by print in her work as a graphic designer. Each of his works experiments with new techniques (use of white or phosphorescent inks, overprinting, etc.) and proposes a new way of conceiving the book as an object. The manipulation of letters and the drawing of characters, but also the work of paper and color are thus placed at the center of his creative work. Installed as a freelance graphic designer since 2005, Fanette Mellier has also carried out various commissioned works for institutions such as the National Museum of Natural History, the Center Pompidou, or the Ministry of Culture. Through this interview structured in three chapters on her work as a typographic designer, author, and graphic designer, Fanette Mellier looks back on her rich and eclectic journey. She reveals her working methods, her artistic affiliations and offers an analysis of her practice halfway between illustration and graphic design. La Fabrique de Fanette Mellier, the first work in the Prisme collection, brings together interviews conducted by Alexandre Dimos (graphic designer and publisher), Francine Foulquier (exhibition curator) and Victor Guégan (art historian).
