🌿Origins and founder

The Émile Noël brand has its roots in the south of France, in Pont-Saint-Esprit (in the Gard region), between Provence and the Cévennes mountains. It was created in 1920 by Emile Noël, a passionate master miller who bought an old oil mill to produce quality oils.

🫒Development throughout the 20th century

1920-1950: The business began with olive oil and local oils. After a major climate disaster in 1956 (frost destroying 90% of olive trees in France), the company diversified its production by turning to sunflower, rapeseed and other seeds.’

1972: The Emile Noël Oil Mill becomes the very first in France to press seeds from organic farming, well before the generalization of organic as a recognized concept.

🍃A pioneer in organic and fair trade

From the 1970s and 1980s onwards, the brand established itself as a pioneer in organic farming in France, gradually expanding its range to include a variety of vegetable oils, condiments, prepared meals, etc.
In the 1980s, it also developed sustainable international supply chains, notably sesame cultivation in Mali, with an approach of supporting local producers and approaches close to fair trade.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 A family business spanning several generations

The business has remained in the family for four generations:

Emile Noël, father and then Emile Noël, son, built and structured the company.’

His daughter Annick Garnier took over the presidency in 1994.’

Today, David Garnier, grandson of Emile Noël, runs the company and brings a new vision for its development.

🏆Centenary and recognition

In 2020, the brand celebrated its 100th anniversary, a rare milestone for a French organic company, symbolizing the longevity of its expertise and its commitment to its values (quality, respect for the environment, authenticity).’
