Der Wanderer über dem Nebelmeer (Dutch: The walker above the mists) is a painting by the German painter Caspar David Friedrich from circa 1817. It shows a man seen from behind, looking away from a high rock over a sea of fog to the surrounding mountains. The canvas is regarded as exemplary of German Romanticism.
