This is an exact image of the original painting in bright colors including brush strokes and canvas background. This painting was painted by Georges Seurat between 1884 and 1886. The painting is pointillist: it consists of many small brushstrokes. This technique was widely used in Neo-Impressionism, of which Seurat is a striking representative. The painting depicts the island of La Grande Jatte on a summer afternoon in the 1980s. La Grande Jatte was then a green island in the Seine near Paris, where the wealthy of the city enjoyed their leisure time on weekends; the island is now fully built up.
