Tile magnet The untreated natural stone travertine is a more or less porous limestone of a light, usually yellowish to brown color that precipitates as spring lime from cold, warm or hot freshwater springs.   The precipitation of the natural stone is caused by the heating of the water in the air, whereby carbon dioxide escapes, which reduces the solubility of the lime.   The small cavities and holes were created by trapped plant parts during the formation of the rock.
