In Malagasy, ravintsara means “tree with good leaves”, in reference to the multiple traditional medicinal uses of its leaves. 

Ravintsara (Cinnamomum camphora) is in fact a camphor tree native to China, but it has acclimatized on the island of Madagascar. 

Obtained by steam distillation of its leaves, it contains active substances such as 1,8 cineol and a-terpineol.
