As a child, I used to climb up that very narrow, very tall staircase leaning against the wall of the house. It was so long that it couldn’t be put anywhere else and so it was left there all year round. My grandfather ‘Ciccill’ and my grandmother ‘Peppinella‘ made me press the grapes with my feet in the tub.
A distant and slightly faded memory, but still present, which brings to mind that strange sensation that the scrapes caused on those children's feet. It was already a peasant tradition that faded into distant family memories.
As an engineer, having returned to the countryside, fond of the land because I remember a love instilled since I was a child by my father, I wanted to take up a part of the family farming tradition, the oldest, the most identifying because it is still alive today in the tree-lined streets that like "giants dressed in green still tower over the fields of these fertile lands".
Approaching the earth with a mind trained in logic has led me to look at the past with modern methods and tools.
Mixing together the past and the modern, technology with experience, blending together taste, history, art, flavours… this is what I set out to do when I replanted the Asprinio vine in those lands that belonged to my father and, even before that, to my grandfather and my ancestors… fertile lands eager to give their strength and soul to the Milk of Aphrodite.
