BOOK - Asterix - Habits and customs explained

We know quite well the history - with a capital H - of Rome, and quite a bit that of Gaul - which was conquered and told by Julius Caesar. But we are less familiar with all those with a small h who make daily life: habits, customs, traditions, practices, and all the ways of doing, learning, working, eating, building , to pray, to fight, to have fun and to love. Was the Roman Pater familias a necessary male? When did he expose his children? Did the Gauls go to the fair? Did the legionaries appreciate the posca pose? Were the Roman days more beautiful than the Gallic nights? How long was an hour in Rome? Would the real Gauls have reserved a dog of my bitch at Dogmatix? By telling us about the habits and customs that were part of everyday life in 50 BC, Asterix and his coated sidekick allow us to see that our Gallo-Roman ancestors transmitted a lot to us. Thanks!
