Small Magpie/ Speckled Yellow Moths Christmas decoration

Hang this beautiful designer ornament on your Christmas tree. This glazed decoration is double-sided and features the Cinnabar Moth and the Small Magpie; taken from my original paintings (also available to buy). The scale and preciousness of the ceramic conveys the jewel-like moths in all their modest beauty. SMALL MAGPIE MOTH: This is a micro moth. The adult wingspan measures just 24-28mm. They are active at dusk and eat nettle, mint and bindweed. I love their delicate marbled markings and striking stripy bodies. SPECKLED YELLOW: This is a rather weak day-flying moth. It could easily be mistaken for a butterfly, taking to the air only in sunshine. It’s speckled brown markings and the shade of yellow vary greatly between individuals. Through education and engagement, they inspire the wider countryside community to understand and appreciate the importance of wildlife to farming, food, the natural environment and wellbeing.  Moth numbers are in decline. One report concludes that the number are down approximately 28% since 1968. This is cause for concern because moths are an indicator species and an important part of the ecosystem, telling us about the health of the environment. Moths are prevalent in a vast number of different habitats and are extremely sensitive to changes. The CRT monitors the numbers and ranges of moths on their properties in order to identify changes to nature such as new farming practices, air pollution and climate change.
