Puy-de-Dôme is part of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region and was part of the former French province of Basse-Auvergne. It borders the departments of Allier, Loire, Haute-Loire, Cantal, Corrèze and Creuse. In the department there are several mountain ranges: the Puys range, the Dore mountains, the Forez bridges, the Livradois, the Bois Noirs massifs and the Cézallier. The Limagne plain, where the Allier and the Dore flow, is located in the north and center of the department.Its main peaks are the Puy de Sancy and the Puy de Dôme, which gives it its name.
