The quartz-controlled Hermle skeleton movement has an astrolabe at the top in addition to the hour and minute displays. The sun, moon and earth are moved by the clockwork via the gear train visible above in their daily, monthly (moon around the earth) and annual rotation (earth around the sun) in the lifelike sequence of time. The date and month position are shown as zodiac signs on the picture scale of the horizontal watch plate. The clock shows the earth's orbit around the sun over the course of a year, with the earth revolving around itself once every 24 hours. You can easily access the mechanical movement by removing the glass dome.
