African wooden shield sold with base. The Tikar shield has traditionally been used as a defensive weapon, displayed as a decorative or ritual symbol of status and wealth by the Tikar tribe in Cameroon. Hand carved from a piece of solid wood, this round shield is etched with striped carvings, creating a distinctive black and white crisscross pattern. The surface has geometric patterns covered with Kaolin (white clay). The back has a thick wooden handle on the inside for gripping. The striking Cameroonian wooden shield looks beautiful in itself on your living room or office wall, or better yet in a collage with other Cameroonian shields. Today, these African shields are a favorite among designers, decorators and art collectors. Standard dimensions: 30 cm, 40 cm and 60 cm in diameter.
