Bamileke stool in white beige wood 90 cm in diameter and 40 cm in height. These white beauties are known as Bamileke stools and come from Cameroon and are iconic African furniture. They are also called king's stools, or bird nests, and were traditionally used by the Bamileke tribe for public ceremonies. I cut them by hand from a continuous piece of wood. To do this, the lumber would first be thrown into the river to soften it, then the ornate web pattern would be hand carved into the hardwood. Any break in the wood would mean that the part has been abandoned or that break is considered a break in the life cycle and therefore a bad omen. The intricate pattern you see in these represents the spider's web of the earth, a symbol of divine wisdom. I make Bamileke stools in a variety of designs and sizes, which includes.
