Pane carasau is a typical Sardinian bread spread throughout Sardinia, in the shape of a very thin and crunchy disc, suitable for long-term storage. The Sardinian term derives from the Sardinian verb carasare, which means to toast. During the carasadura the bread is put back in the oven for the final baking; this cooking makes it crunchy. In this variant, the slice of carasau bread is in the shape of a half moon, i.e. the half of the disc.
