Welcome to our lab! We, the scientists of the GIETE (Intergovernmental Group of Experts on Energy Transition) have been flooding the world's governments with data for decades on an environmental situation that is only getting worse. Faced with systematic inaction from our heads of state and large companies, and despite the urgency, we have allocated part of our meager budgets to the development of artificial intelligence (I.HAS.). Like a digital hummingbird, this I.HAS. will collect the results of experiences lived by volunteers who will feed it with their attempts, their behaviors and their reactivity. Little by little, she will explore with them different social and political systems, each of which may perhaps provide part of the solution. And finally, your participation will inform urgent decisions that need to be made. Each of the 16 Experiences will lead you to use the resources available in a territory to meet the energy needs of the population, in a limited time, and under a defined system. Happy experimenting! A game full of Science! The game is accompanied by a 68-page book (“Before I turn off the light…”) which is not an energy transition manual, but rather a document accompanying the game. Written by the energy specialist Pascal Lenormand, it explains the reasons for the abstract actions that the I.HAS. asks players, and draws parallels with the real systems that are at their origin. Cooperative and scalable! Cooperative: you will win or lose together. In any case, you will gain a special moment between humans! Scalable: depending on the Experiences you are going to play, you will have to adapt the rules and the cards to use. Be prepared, this is a game where you will have to learn, unlearn and relearn a lot! Your goal Each Experience consists of 3 rounds. The 3rd offers an optimized test with a special rule. To win a game, you must win all 3 rounds. If you win all 16 Experiences… something will happen. On the other hand, you lose immediately at the end of a round if you fail to meet the energy needs of a population or if you pollute more than is sustainable.
