!!!Unique piece¡¡¡ This type of large stoneware bowl with Guan glaze "snowflakes, ice crackle or fish scales" is a unique and unrepeatable piece. It has thick glaze areas where these types of overlapping fish scales are created. They are formed within this transparent glaze and stand out against the stoneware of the piece, which is a cream-white stoneware covered with a black slip. This stoneware bowl is a work of high craftsmanship, elaborated and carefully designed in all its details. It is a large bowl in the shape of a flower, perfect as an exceptional decorative piece. It is also the right size to use with dry flower arrangements or for non-liquid foods, such as fruits, nuts, candy, etc. This special transparent glaze called Guan or Kuan, is a Chinese formula from about 800 years ago, which highlights what could be considered a flaw in the glaze. But that becomes an effect of great beauty and delicacy. Within the glaze flakes of translucent crystals are formed that resemble fish scales or snowflakes, but the surface is smooth and shiny. These unique effects are very difficult to achieve. It has a capacity of a liter and a quarter and a size of about 17 cm (c.7") high by 14 cm (c.6") wide. The base is unglazed, which is normal for handmade ceramic pieces. This is not a problem since the piece is vitrified and is practically waterproof. It is also polished so as not to affect the surface of the furniture if used properly. This piece was fired at high temperature (first at 980ºC-1800ºF, then glazed and fired at least once more at 1250ºC-2280ºF). I prepare the glazes myself using high quality raw materials, which are properly fused into the piece in the final firing. Thus they are transformed into an inert glass that is not altered by the acids of some foods. Unlike the other bowls, cups, glasses, plates, etc., all made for use with food found in my store (food safe, microwave and dishwasher safe, and resistant to sudden changes in temperature), I cannot certify that this Guan glaze bowl is suitable for liquid food, neither microwave nor dishwasher safe, it is better to wash it by hand.
