The Bolero is the most famous and performed work by Maurice Ravel, who had been commissioned by the Russian dancer and patron Ida Rubinstein, an icon of the belle époque. Considered a refined exercise in orchestral virtuosity, it premiered in Paris in 1928, at the Opéra Garnier. José Antonio Abad traces, from this melody, a captivating story that, like the notes of the score, introduces the musicians -with their respective instruments- of a very special orchestra. The surprising illustrations by Federico Delicado -whose protagonists are humanized animals belonging to endangered species- transport us to an urban setting as luxury attendees at a memorable concert that, in addition to music, also surrounds us with light and color.
