Goraka is a tropical fruit native to Sri Lanka and India, among others. The fresh fruit, which resembles a small pumpkin, grows on large trees in wild gardens surrounded by mango, pepper and Jackfruit. The "spice" Goraka itself is pieces of the fruit which are dried and occasionally also lightly smoked in taste if dried over fire. Goraka is also known as Malabar tamarind and as the superfood Garcinia and is used in Sri Lankan and South Indian cooking to give acid to the dish, but also as a natural preservative due to the high acid content. In Sri Lanka and southern India, it is used in curries with meat and fish, as well as pickles. And it is also fantastic as an ingredient in cocktails and lemonade. 25 g
