The Ouessant distillery was born in 2016 from the passionate encounter of the island of Ouessant and the evidence that from its sea-swept soil and its water, a unique drink could be produced there for the first time: whisky.
Once home to more than 100 mills, the barley plantations located there inspired the meaning of this project.
The idea of making a pastis was also born from observing the island's plants, and from the team's taste for spices, a range of beers and a gin.
Committed to the goal of creating sustainable employment on the island, production at the Ouessant distillery is carried out by Joëlle and Mathilde, perpetuating the tradition of the “island of women”, as they played such an important role for the island when the sailors were at sea.
Concerned about the island's energy transition and the optimization of production, the Ouessant distillery was designed "like on a boat" and uses processes for maximum recovery of calories and water and unique equipment to heat its still.
The Ouessant distillery invites you to discover products imbued with the Breton identity of the Ponant islands and especially the unique terroir of Ouessant.
