The House by the Canal / Youth Documentary / Anne Frank

In the heart of Amsterdam sits a tall, narrow house near a canal. It was built 400 years ago, during the Dutch Golden Age. It served as housing, refuge during the Black Death, warehouse, stable... and hiding place. The annex housed a little Jewish girl during the German occupation, who wrote in her diary about “the old house by the canal”. Her name was Anne Frank and today this house is one of the most visited museums in the world. Thomas Harding's sensitive text crosses the ages, carried by the subtly veiled photographic realism of Britta Teckentrup's images.
