ANDin the town of Trecastagni, on the slopes of the highest active volcano in Europe, "u Mungibeddu", the artisan company "Le Tre Castagne dell'Etna S." was born in 2018.r.L.”.
Our success is the result of the diligent work of grandfather Alfio who, during the Second World War, patiently waited for the pruning period to supply the town's bakers with wood. Today, the third generation faithfully follows in his footsteps, mindful of when he, at just seven years old, went to the chestnut grove on the back of a donkey.
The "tagghiaturi" of Trecastagni stood out for their particular diligence in caring for the chestnut groves. ANDthe anecdote according to which they, having to spend long periods in the countryside, made real mattresses with chestnut leaf padding is fascinating. Excellent connoisseurs of shrubs and their peculiarities, the woodcutters worked to create favorable conditions for the survival of chestnut groves; annually, in the month of November, leaves and hedgehogs were used to form a layer of undergrowth essential for on-site fertilization. This is humus, a fundamental organic substance generated following the natural decomposition of plant and animal residues.
Over the years the most difficult challenge has been to transform the need for wood into fruit. Today, our production is mainly focused on the Etna chestnut, extending to a vast range of agri-food products. Savory pestos, ready-made sauces, spreads, jams and marmalades convey the aromas and freshness of the fruits of our land. Those who choose us can, therefore, taste the products of Etna Sicily, carefully packaged in jars that contain our passion for artisan work and the scrupulous selection of raw materials. We also pay particular attention to the manufacturing process, carried out with a direct concentration system and aimed at using all the sugars naturally present in the fruit.
The Three Chestnuts of Etna S.r.L. also offers a production service for third parties with dedicated labels, promptly responding to requests from producers and companies.
