Leela Cotton is a family business founded in the early 90s by the married couple Susanne and Kemal Bektas. Having been associated with the environmental movement for decades, they began looking for ways to produce skin-friendly, child-friendly cotton textiles without chemical additives that are harmful to the environment and health. This search took them to the Izmir area in western Turkey, where Aegean cotton, one of the best and finest cotton varieties in the world, is cultivated according to organic farming criteria.
Since the beginning, in 1994, Susanne and Kemal Bektas have tried to find trustworthy producers for their brand Leela Cotton who implement their concept of ecologically and sustainably produced children's clothing. The family and Leela Cotton grew up together, the second generation of the family joined and decided to extend this 30-year experiment to adult clothing. And so Leela Cotton continued to grow. Well-thought-out design, new material alternatives and innovative production techniques were the focus of a search for new possibilities in textile production.
