Leela Cotton is a family business founded in the early 90's by husband and wife team, Susanne and Kemal Bektas. Associated with the environmental movement for decades, they started looking for ways to produce skin-friendly, child-friendly cotton textiles without chemical additives that were harmful to the environment and health. This search led her to the Izmir area of western Turkey, where Aegean cotton, one of the best and finest cottons in the world, is cultivated according to organic farming criteria.
Since the very beginning, in 1994, Susanne and Kemal Bektas have tried to find trustworthy producers for their Leela Cotton brand who would implement their concept of ecological and sustainably produced children's clothing. The family and Leela Cotton grew up together, the second generation of the family joined and decided to extend this 30 year experiment to adult clothing. This is how Leela Cotton continued to grow. Well thought-out design, new material alternatives and innovative production techniques were the focus of a search for new possibilities in textile production.
