A peninsula nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and salt marshes, a land of granite and white gold, Batz-sur-Mer is home to a rich heritage, a legacy of its Breton roots and its history steeped in marine traditions. Located at the foot of the ramparts of Guérande, the town of Batz and its four villages form a unique site half made up of salt marshes. The prosperity of the town of Batz was thus built, from the 9th century, on the exploitation and trading of salt. The precious Guérande fleur de sel, the white gold of the peninsula, is harvested in fine weather in the 459 hectares of salt marshes.
