Libertad gives coffee its freedom: A specialty coffee roasted at its origin, in Colombia, by those who grow it.
In short: a specialty coffee, grown, roasted and packaged by the Colombian producers themselves, who assume full responsibility and directly capture the value. They are located in the Eje Cafetero, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Why Libertad?
Because great coffee is based on a dual requirement: the quality of the raw material and the preservation of its aromatic potential. This freshness is not only achieved during the roasting process; it begins well before, in the way the raw material is selected, preserved, and prepared.
In the French specialty coffee market, it is still rare to be able to offer coffee roasted directly at its origin, at the producer's.
At Libertad, we have chosen a different model: the coffee is grown, selected, prepared, roasted and packaged directly on the farm, in Colombia, by those who give it birth.
A double guarantee: specialty and freshness
1. The guarantee of a truly specialty coffee
A specialty coffee is more than just its origin. It is based on a demanding selection of grains: quality of harvest, care taken in preparation, regularity of batches and search for a remarkable aromatic profile. At Libertad, these strict criteria guide the choice of each of our partner producers.
2. Guaranteed aromatic freshness
Coffee is a living agricultural product. Like all great products from nature, it expresses its potential best when preserved as close as possible to its origin.
After drying, the bean naturally retains its parchment, a protective covering that accompanies the coffee through to the final stages of preparation. At Libertad, it remains there until the optimal moment, then is debarked and roasted directly on the farm, a control which preserves all its aromatic potential before roasting reveals its richness.
Libertad made the choice to capture this technical advantage, impossible to reproduce once the coffee arrived in France, stripped of its parchment.
The producer-roaster at the heart of every step
At Libertad, the producer doesn't just supply green coffee: they control the entire process, from selection to roasting. This continuity is rare: the one who cultivates the coffee is also the one who reveals its aromas, a true producer-roaster. We have deliberately narrowed our sourcing to these partner producers and roasters, all located in the Colombian Eje Cafetero (a region classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its mountain coffee culture) to build lasting relationships with them and guarantee consistent quality, cup after cup.
Value that remains at the source
By carrying out the additional preparation, roasting, and packaging steps themselves, producers retain a larger share of the value created by their work. Each package thus contributes directly to the families who live off this land and this know-how passed down through generations.

The Libertad adventure began in 1998, during a trip to Colombia by Jean-Pierre Lebas. In a small family roastery, he discovered specialty coffee and above all a different approach: that of producers who master each step with precision and exacting standards.
Coming from a family deeply attached to the agricultural world, Jean-Pierre understood that a great product is born first and foremost from respect for its raw material and for those who work it.
This conviction will give birth to Libertad in 2025: a brand founded on a simple idea. To create a coffee where origin, know-how and quality remain linked all the way to the cup.
