In 2017, Florian, a globetrotter from Krefeld, spends a few months in Cambodia for a diving instructor course. During this time, he and his then partner immerse themselves deeply in the local community, and experiences such as hosting swimming lessons for the local children ensure that Florian and his partner want to help the people.
You had already seen decorated coconut shells in many markets. The sustainability and the unique character of the bowls, together with the opportunity to share your experiences and to support the local people, quickly led to the consideration of founding a sustainable shop. The idea of Makapli was born.
So pack 100 bowls in your backpack and bring them to Germany. The coconut shells are so popular with friends and acquaintances that all shells are sold out after just a few days. And so it is not long considered and Makapli is founded.
In the meantime, the range has been expanded to include sustainable products such as silk lanterns and candles. The conditions we set: The products are manufactured fairly, are sustainable and show the character of the country.
