Sentence Builder

Sentence builder allows the child to create phrases, sentences, and make up stories before they can read and write, helping build the vocabulary and understanding of the language structure, give descriptive answers to questions such as ‘Who is this?’ and ‘What is happening?”, and describe a picture. To use: 1. Ask the child to build a two-word phrase: ‘Car rolls’, ‘Cat eats’, finding a matching second card - first by guiding the child’s hand, then independently. 2. Ask the child to build a sentence, ‘writing down’ what they hear you say, adding a third picture to the first two that you laid out. 3. Add complexity by only offering the first card and asking the child to find a ‘verb’ and a ‘noun’ car, then add more words. 4. Ask the child to find an error in a sentence that you built. 5. Ask the child to remember and then recreate a phrase. 6. Lay out a sequence of cards to form a story, and ask the child to tell you the story.
