○ Latin name: Melia azadirachta Neem oil is a vegetable oil derived from the seeds of the neem tree, a tree native to India and other tropical regions. It is also known as neem oil or nim oil. Neem is an evergreen tree that can reach a height of 15 to 20 meters. It has a dense, rounded crown with spreading branches. Its leaves are alternate, odd-pinnate and compound, usually measuring 20 to 40 cm in length. Each leaf is composed of 10 to 14 elongated and serrated oval leaflets. Neem flowers are small, white or slightly creamy, and have a pleasant smell. They are grouped in axillary panicles, producing large quantities of nectar. The fruit is an oval or olive-shaped drupe, about 1-2 cm long. The fruits are green when young and yellow when ripe. Each fruit contains one or more seeds, which are the sources of neem oil.
