Inspired by the love of cultures. Nature and the stranger.
The store first began in the fall of 2009. Coming for a social “Women Empowerment” project, the journey led through the endless expanses of India. In the small villages I immersed myself in the culture and language and fell more and more in love with the country and the diversity of Indian culture.
Since the beginning of Nomadic Affairs, I spend as much time as possible, usually several months of the year, with tailors and dealers to plan the designs together, select fabrics and ensure fair trade. This way, your new favorite pieces can be created in peace and without any rush. During the months spent traveling back and forth between the manufactories and fabric suppliers, there's usually not just a lot of organizing and work going on. There is a lot of chatting, laughing and dancing together at the countless Indian weddings.
Over the years the network grew, new places were added and many new faces were added to the store. Some close friendships were formed, accompanied by countless liters of chai. The fabrics whisper quiet stories of masala and deep friendships in distant lands.
Living and working in India is not always easy. But working together with the local people opens doors to another world and gives deep insights into the culture. Through everyday life together, India's world of experience and work becomes tangible. Time and again, conversations and everyday situations point the way to culturally adapted solutions and turn your own Western-influenced worldview on its head.
Cultural exchange and warm togetherness are the top priority and are the guiding principles of Nomadic Affairs.
