  • Since 1989
A pioneer of fair trade with India, PAPERTREE was founded in 1987, offering refined, eco-designed collections on recycled cotton paper in partnership with small units spread across the Indian continent. Using ancestral manual screen printing techniques, the extremely fine patterns are printed on a sheet of paper. They are most often inspired by decorative works from around the world, sometimes Indian, Japanese, Javanese, Persian or Art Deco.

All PAPERTREE products are handcrafted in India or Nepal according to fair trade ethical rules.

ECOLOGY: PAPERTREE respects the planet by only manufacturing papers from recycled materials: cotton fibers, banana fibers or mulberry bark or lokta. The cotton used comes from the waste from textile manufacturing, which is very active in India; the process of manufacturing the paper sheets is also eco-friendly: the waste water is filtered and reused in the workshops.

QUALITY: Handmade in the traditional way, the quality of PAPERTREE paper is rigorously controlled on site. Its velvety texture, resistance to handling and the brightness of its colours are remarkable. The marbled papers are still produced one by one, by hand, and dried in the open air. Each leaf, made on a round shape and then marbled by hand, is a unique piece.

EQUITY: The workshops spread across the Indian continent produce meticulous work through stationery items that are remunerative for women. The French teams regularly travel to the site to share creativity sessions around paper and check the manufacturing method.
