The birth of Petiscope
From a very young age, I have always been fascinated by science and nature.
I remember having a large microscope at home, but it was complicated to use. It required patience, precision, and it just wasn't suitable for children.
I quickly gave up... and discovered the wonders of the micro-world through books, without ever being able to really explore them on my own.
Fortunately, I grew up in an environment where autonomy and curiosity were encouraged.
My mother, a childminder trained in Montessori teaching, instilled in me very early on a love of learning by touching, handling and experimenting.
This active learning method had a profound impact on me.
The Idea
In 2023, while watching children play with a simple magnifying glass, an idea struck me:
What if we made the microscope portable, easy to use, and truly suitable for children?
I wanted to create a tool that would accompany children on their adventures, in the forest, in the garden, in the house. An object that awakens curiosity, stimulates the imagination, and transforms every outing into a little explorer's mission.
The design
Starting from this idea, I put everything down on paper.
I interviewed teachers and parents, observed the children, and tried to understand their actions, their needs, their difficulties.
Little by little, the Petiscope took shape: a pocket microscope, light, easy to handle, and ready to use in a few seconds.
The first prototypes were tested immediately.
They were already very promising, but we continued to improve them with one goal in mind: to offer an experience that was fun, educational and intuitive.
And the results spoke for themselves: the children were more focused, more enthusiastic, more curious.
The parents were delighted to see their children marveling in ways other than through a screen.
A rapidly growing adventure
The Petiscope was officially launched in June 2024.
Since then, more than 30,000 children and parents have joined our adventure and rediscovered the world through a new lens, their own.
Today, we have a presence on our online store, as well as on several partner marketplaces, and we are actively developing our B2B network to make the Petiscope accessible to everyone: families, schools, local authorities, museums…
But the adventure is just beginning.
We work every day to improve our microscope, develop new accessories, and imagine tools that give children the power to understand the world for themselves.
A simple mission
At Petiscope, our mission is clear:
To enable every child to experience their own discoveries through accessible, stimulating tools designed specifically for them.
Tools that allow them to grow up curious, free, autonomous and aware. And above all, connected to the beauty of the real world.
