Well, before 1.000 years ago, emperors and kings loved to eat mustard. Of course there was no sugar yet, but there was good honey. We also sweeten our mustards with good beekeeper honey. There was also no brandy vinegar yet; the art of distillation only became known in Central Germany 300 years later. For this purpose, mustard was made with fruit vinegar.
