Maca is an herbaceous plant native to the high Andes of Peru and Bolivia, where it is grown both due to its nourishing properties and because a reputation that its roots boost fertility and increase the libido. The shape reminds that of a radish, only that a bit bigger though. The roots are between three to six cm wide and about 5 cm long. It grows in high mountainous areas, above 4000 m, on rocky soil and under extreme weather conditions. According to the local traditions, maca was used by Inca warriors to encourage their aggressiveness during combat clashes.
