YogaStyles meditation cushion Violet 7th chakra

The seventh chakra Sahasrara, represented by a crown and a thousand petals, is seen in Eastern cultures as the supreme center of contact with God. The sacred lotus with a thousand petals.     Sahasrara (सहस्रार) is Sanskrit for thousandfold and is the seventh chakra according to Hindu and yogic traditions, within which chakras contain physical, emotional and spiritual components. According to Tantrism (Shaktism) there are eight chakras instead of seven and in this Sahasrara is the eighth chakra and Bindu is an additional, seventh chakra. Sahasrara is located above the crown and is associated with spirituality and enlightenment.     Spiritual meaning: Physical: The crown chakra is associated with an effect on the entire organism. If the energy in this chakra is too weak, chronic illnesses, nervous disorders and life-threatening diseases can arise, with the most common problems manifesting as headaches, confusion, forgetfulness, sleep disorders and depression. Emotional: This chakra has to do with higher consciousness. An opened seventh chakra is said to bring about a sense of deep peace and harmony, beyond duality, which in turn leads to experiences of total happiness and connection with a reality that lies beyond thought. The energy of this chakra could lead one to reach the Mahatma, 'the great soul'. Symbolic: Sahasrara is associated with the following symbols: Gods: Kundalini Shakti and Shiva Element: none Colors: white, violet, gold Animal: snake (Kundalin) Body parts: cerebral cortex, the entire organism Planet: Neptune Alternative names[edit] Tantras: Adhomukha Mahapadma, Amlana Padma, Dashashatadala Padma, Pankaja, Sahasrabja, Sahasrachchada Panikaja, Sahasradala, Sahasradala Adhomukha Padma, Sahasradala Padma, Sahasrapatra, Sahasrara, Sahasrara Ambuja, Sahasrara Mahapadma, Sahasrara Padma, Sahasrara Saroruha, Shiras Padma, Shuddha Padma, Wyoma, Wyomambhoja Vedas (later Upanishads): Akasha Chakra, Kapalasamputa, Sahasradala, Sahasrara, Sahasrara Kamala (Pankaja or Padma), Sthana, Wyoma, Wyomambuja Puranas: Parama, Sahasradala, Sahasraparna Padma, Sahasrapatra, Sahasrara, Sahasrara Kamala (Parikaja or Padma), Shantyatita, Shantyatita Pada
