Founded in 2008, Rue de l’échiquier is an independent publishing house specializing in ecology and all related subjects: climate change, mobility choices, alternative practices, zero waste, civic engagement, feminisms, etc.
Initially made up of reference or popularization essays, our catalog has diversified considerably in recent years: practical books, children's albums, comics and fiction.
Our objective: to raise awareness among a wide audience of issues that seem fundamental to us.
Rue de l’échiquier is a 100% independent publishing house that does not belong to any group or local authority. All his associates.They are natural persons, employees.are company employees or fellow travelers (director.ices of collections, author.ices, reader.ices, etc.).
Rue de l’échiquier benefits from the “Socially useful solidarity enterprise” (ESUS) approval granted by the public authorities, which thus recognize its registration in the field of the social and solidarity economy and its compliance with the following criteria: an editorial policy promoting a fairer and more ecological model of society, a fair remuneration scale, and an income statement impacted by its actions in favor of the general interest.
A founding member of the collective of eco-compatible publishers in 2010, Rue de l’échiquier strives to reduce its environmental footprint as much as possible: all books are printed less than 800 kilometers from the main storage location on FSC or PEFC-certified paper, from sustainably managed forests. And the faded copies – that is to say damaged, dog-eared, torn but still readable! –,are donated to the Emmaüs association to avoid the pestle.
