Trash everywhere, justice nowhere

Since the beginning of the 2010s, the “zero waste” approach has been on the rise. But while it is often perceived as an individual action reserved for the wealthy social classes and disconnected from the realities of the most modest households, it must now be evaluated without complacency. While small daily gestures represent for many a concrete means of access to ecological issues, they tend to obscure the importance of the collective struggle for the emergence of a truly effective waste reduction and management policy, which does not leave nobody aside. Starting from a critical analysis of the stratagems of the current "polluter-waste" model, Alice Elfassi and Moïra Tourneur, from the association Zero Waste France, lay the foundations of a social project that is just as respectful of planetary limits as it is concerned of equality. In a spirit of convergence of struggles, they propose, with this manifesto, a real concrete and united alternative. Because a truly “zero waste, zero waste” society cannot happen without environmental, economic, social and popular justice.
