Become a deer

During the spring 2020 confinement, Tony Durand got into the habit of sharing his family meals in his Norman garden to take advantage of the exceptionally sunny weather. In a burst of euphoria in front of the dawning spring, and to distract his daughters, he abandons himself, one morning, to daydreaming and imagines himself a young deer, greedily devouring the first buds which then appear on the surrounding shrubs. And such is not his surprise when, a few days later, a young deer leaps over the hedge to find himself in front of him... Becoming a deer has as its starting point this chance, this coincidence, this encounter between the imaginary and reality. Beyond telling us about the delights of the life of a young deer in an awakening nature, Tony Durand literally becomes one with him, projects himself with empathy and humor into the sensations and aspirations of his animal double. In as many small touches as there are buds in the trees, the author carries us away in his admiration for the liveliness and freedom of this fascinating deer, and opens wide the doors of the living and the imaginary that he can arouse. _________ “If I were a young deer, I would treat obstacles with contempt, leaping over them, cold, without momentum if I dare say. Borders, barriers, I would step over them with disconcerting ease. A hole in the vegetation would encourage me to emerge from the wings, without warning. If an emergency exit were necessary, a gate left open would be an honest exit for the artists (no need to walk me back, I know the way). A barrier ? Where is that, an obstacle? » The literary wanderings of an author inspired by the springtime effervescence of nature.
