“Garafia” is the name of a mountain town located north of the island of La Palma, in the Spanish archipelago of the Canaries. It is also the title of this chronicle which relates how the political repression of the Franco dictatorship and economic misery forced its inhabitants into exile. As they embark for Latin America to support their families , men quickly find themselves confronted with the xenophobia and discrimination that have always and everywhere affected migrants. Little by little, they will learn to live alone and to ensure their survival, under the growing threat of the fascist regime. inspired by the journey of his own grandparents, Inocencio and Gloria.
